Terming farmers' suicides in the country as a 'great tragedy', former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Thursday asked all parties to use their collective wisdom and experience to find a credible solution to prevent such tragedies.
"This is a great tragedy that so many farmers are committing suicide. All parties in the House and outside must put their wisdom, knowledge and experience to find a credible solution. This isn't an inter-party issue," said Dr. Singh.
The issue of a farmer's suicide yesterday at an Aam Aadmi Party rally against the Land Acquisition Bill in the capital rocked Parliament today.
The matter was raised by Trinamool Congress members and supported by other opposition parties including Samajwadi Party, Left and Congress party.
Additionally, Mallikarjun Kharge of Congress demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and also questioned the role of Delhi Police during the incident.
Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi also met Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the matter and submitted a report on the incident.
