Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha on Saturday said a fault line had been created when there was a divorce between the Prime Ministership and the leader of a political party.

Sinha said, "The fault line was created in 2004 when UPA came to power. At that time, there was a divorce between the PM's post and the political leadership. The PM has to be the political leader in his right. He cannot be decisive, if he is No.2 or 3 in his party. So, this is where the fault line was created."

"This arrangement laid the seeds of irresponsibility. On the one hand, there was accountability without power, and on the other hand, there was power without accountability. This led to the problems, which we are facing today," he said referring to the Sonia Gandhi led National Advisory Council (NAC).

Sinha also praised Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi saying, "Today, the country is looking forward to Narendra Modi because, they think he is a decisive leader. He will deliver what he says."

Responding to a question about challenges for the NDA Government if it is voted back in the power in 2014 elections, he said, "The biggest challenge after the 2014 elections would be the non-governance of UPA, in the last five years. In UPA 2 governance has gone for a six. There was a government, but no governance. Today, whatever the scenario we have, whether it is about the corruption or, centre-state relations, all these are a result of a lack of governance.
