Veteran film star and former MP Jaya Prada, who on Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party said contesting from Rampur Lok Sabha seat feels like "going back home."
"I'm feeling happy, I'm thankful to Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having the confidence in me and giving me this seat. Rampur has always given me love and affection. The people love me with all their hearts. It feels like I'm going back home," Jaya told ANI here.
The actor-turned-politician was inducted into the party by BJP general secretary Bhupender Yadav and the party's media head and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni.
Jay Prada is set for a face-off between bitter rival and SP candidate Azam Khan.
Jaya Prada had made her political debut in 1994 with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) but later quit due to differences with party chief Chandrababu Naidu.
The actress then joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) but was expelled on account of alleged anti-party activities in 2010.
The former SP leader had won the Rampur Lok Sabha seat in 2004 and 2009.
