'Fellow sufferer' Michael Yardy backs Trott's decision to quit Ashes tour to battle 'depression'

England cricketer Michael Yardy has backed batsman Jonathan Trott's decision to quit the Ashes tour over 'stress-related' issues and head home, saying that by taking the tough decision Trott has taken the first step to getting himself well.

Yardy, who won the World Twenty20 with England in 2010, left England's World Cup campaign in 2011 suffering with depression and has not returned to the international game.

According to the Mirror, Yardy believes that Trott has gone to the best possible place-his family- to recover from his depression, adding that from his experience, the fact that he would go home to be with his family gave him comfort throughout the entire journey home.

Yardy further said that he needed to get away from the place he was in, away from the spotlight of being judged while playing for England, although he admitted that it is difficult to compare his condition with Trott's as each person goes through different things.

Yardy also said that the players are not just tough cricketers out there trying to prove their strength, but also ordinary human beings, adding that there is a balance to be found between the tough performer and the fact there is a human being behind it.
