The nation gave Narendra Modi a clear majority and expected him to deliver on his promises of generating one crore jobs a year, but lesser jobs were created under the Modi Government, says a release by the Congress.
The data put out by the Ministry of Labour indicates that a total of 5.21 lakh jobs were created in the eight manpower intensive sectors in the first year of the Modi government, against UPA's average of 6.76 lakh jobs a year. The first year job data showed that 30 percent fewer jobs were created during the first financial year of the Modi government.
With exports down for 10 months in a row and rural demand (and rural wage growth) at their lowest in many years, the future does not look very bright either, says the release.
The first quarter of the last financial year showed an increase of 1.82 lakh jobs, which declined to 1.58 lakh jobs in the second quarter. The number of new jobs created in the top eight manpower intensive sectors slowed down to 1.17 lakh in the third quarter and then crashed to 64,000 in the last quarter.
The Congress release says that the Modi government has two options: focus on growth, or take the 'diversion' and go back to building communal polarization. The Modi government may have already taken the 'diversion', it says.
