Pakistan on Tuesday said that the final disposition of the Jammu and Kashmir issue should be in accordance with the will of people of the state.
"Pakistan firmly believes that the final disposition of the Jammu and Kashmir issue should be in accordance with the will of the Kashmiri people, to be determined through a free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices, as enshrined in relevant Security Council Resolution," " the Pakistan Foreign Office said.
According to Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kashmiris are important stakeholders as they are the ones required to exercise their right to self-determination.
Pakistan further said that the country is committed to a sustained, unconditional and result-oriented dialogue with India.
"Pakistan has all along maintained that dialogue between Pakistan and India is important for peace, economic development and welfare of the people of South Asia. Pakistan remains committed to a sustained, unconditional and result-oriented dialogue with India, to discuss all outstanding issue, including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir," the statement said.
Earlier today, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akabarrudin had said that there is no scope for misunderstanding or misrepresenting India's position on so called Hurriyat.
India had also said that the country has no objection to invitation to Hurriyat leaders to its National Day celebrations in New Delhi. Akbaruddin had also said, "The Government of India prefers to speak for itself".
