Condemning the recent attacks on people from the North East, former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma on Friday said it was high time a solution was found to end this spate of violence.
"Whatever is happening is very unfortunate, shameful and we condemn it. It is important to talk to the people from the North-East who are living in such localities, because their version matters a lot," Sangma told ANI, while referring to the latest reports, according to which, a Mizo girl was killed last night in the national capital.
"It cannot happen perpetually. We have to find solutions. The short term solution is to enforce the law and order; the medium term solution is to bring about some sort of understanding between the people of the North-East living in Delhi and the people of Delhi, and the long term solution is to completely change the mindset of the people for which various steps have to be taken," he added.
Sangma further refused to believe that cultural differences were causing the attacks to take place. "Is there any cultural differences or differences in the way of life?" he asked.
This latest attack comes after a Naga boy was assaulted in Bangalore on Wednesday, followed by two Naga men being beaten up in Gurgaon on Thursday, prompting Congress Member of Parliament Ninong Ering, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh, to call for passing legislation and imposing strict punishment to stop racial attacks.
