A major fire broke out at a 110-year old heritage building here on Tuesday causing extensive damage.
The 110-year-old building housed the office of the Accountant General, and contained important documents and government records.
Teams of the police and Army were also called on to assist fire fighters in dousing the fire.
Additional District Magistrate, Simla, D. K. Rattan, said that the building caught fire early today morning.
"One of Simla's oldest heritage buildings caught fire early in the morning. The 19th century built building has been gutted suddenly. The fire brigade was called in to douse the flames. A division of the Army was also called in to assist the fire fighters," Rattan said.
No casualties have been reported so far.

Rattan added that the rescue work was delayed as many cars were parked in the area.
"A lot of cars were parked near the building. The rescue work was slightly delayed because it took a lot of time to remove the cars from the area. There were a lot of government records and details of pensioners which, in my view, have been destroyed," he added.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
