The first phase of panchayat elections in West Bengal are being held today.
During this phase, polling will take place in West Midnapore, Purlia and Bankura Districts.
Voting began at 7 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m.
Over ten thousand booths have been opened for 74,54,053 voters.
According to information given out by the state election commission, the poll contest is 2505 sets in the Bankura gram panchayat, 535 seats in panchayat samitis and 46 seats in zila parisads, 1944 seats in Purulia gram panchayat, 446 seats in panchayat samitis and 38 seats in Zila parisads.
On the other hand polls will be held in 3846 seats in Pashim Midnapore Gram Panchayat and 67 zila parisad seats.
