First Session of the India-Georgia Intergovernmental Commission talks held in New Delhi

The First Session of India-Georgia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological, Cultural and Educational Cooperation was held on 29th April 2014 in New Delhi.

The Indian delegation was led by Dinkar Khullar, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs and the Georgian delegation by H.E. David Jalagania, Deputy Foreign Minister, who brought with him a high level team of Georgian officials.

The discussion focused on cooperation in trade and investment, energy, industry, information technology, tourism, science and technology, consular issues, culture, education, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, and agriculture between the two countries.

The Georgian side noted the recent investments made by Indian companies in Georgia's agriculture, energy, steel and oil exploration sectors. The. session discussed a number of concrete proposals to take trade and economic cooperation to the next level. Both sides particularly noted the potential to step up cooperation in pharmaceuticals, information technology, agriculture and tourism.

The IGC Session was followed by a Business Forum at FICCI at which presentations were made on trade and investment opportunities that exist in each country. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and (FICCI) Industry was signed to establish cooperation and friendship ties with the aim to promote mutually advantageous commercial and industrial interests.
