Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi on Saturday said attacks on Indian Tamilian fishermen have continued even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government took charge at the Centre and added that this colonization must be stopped immediately.

"Even after the new government, the attacks are continuing. We have to put a stop to that. What we are looking forward to is a peaceful co-existence for the Tamil people and to make sure that their rights are given back to them. The colonisation has to be stopped immediately," Kanimozhi told ANI.

"The most important thing is that the place where Tamil people lived and which they consider as their own motherland is given back to them. The government has to make sure about the education, medical facilities and opportunity to employment. There should be industries brought in there. The most important thing is that militarization of that entire area has to be slowly cut down," she added.

The DMK leader's reaction came in response to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe's remark that his government was willing to make a 'reasonable deal' with India with respect to the fishing rights, adding that the law creates provisions for a man to 'shoot' an intruder in his home.

"If someone tries to break into my house, I can shoot. If he gets killed...Law allows me to do that... On the fishermen issue, As far as I'm concerned, I have very very strong lines. These are our waters...Fishermen of Jaffna should be allowed to fish. We stopped them from fishing, which is why the Indian fishermen came in. They are willing to have a deal...Let's have a reasonable deal... But not at the expense of the income of the Northern Fishermen," Prime Minister Wickremasinghe said yesterday in an exclusive interview to Thanthi TV, a Chennai based news channel.
