Five to six militants involved in Karachi terror strike: PM Sharif's adviser

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Adviser on Aviation Affairs, Shujaat Azeem, on Tuesday said that five to six militants took part in the fresh terror attack near Karachi's Jinnah International Airport.

Confirming the attack on the Airport Security Force (ASF) Academy, which is located in Pehalwan Goth, about a kilometer-and-a-half from the airport, Azeem said the militants attacked from the side of Pehalwan Goth.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said army troops are at the the spot of the attack near the ASF Academy.

Security forces have encircled the ASF building and are in the process of conducting a sanitation drive, reports Jaag TV.

Karachi Police Chief Thebo continues to insist that thre was no terror attack, and that the gunshots heard, had created panic near the ASF Academy

At least three Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel were reported injured during a second terror strike close to Karachi's Jinnah International Airport on Tuesday.

Jaag TV quoted rescue workers as saying that the three ASF personnel were injured in firing near the ASF Academy in Pahalwan Goth, which is a kilometer-and-a-half from the airport.

Helicopters are also being flown over the area to make an a surveillance assessment of the situation on ground near the ASF Academy.

There are reports of at least five terrorists escaping from the area while the cross-fire was on.

It has been reported that ten terrorists in batches of five each are involved in the attack.

Karachi Police, paramilitaries and the Pakistan Army personnel are on a state of high alert in the area of the strike.

Pakistani Rangers personnel said two or three shots were fired near the sewer drainage of the ASF Academy.

The ASF Guard with RPG are in a state of readiness to defend the academy and its personnel.

Flight operations have been suspended at Karachi Airport following the fresh attack by terrorists on the Airport Security Force (ASF) Academy at Pehalwan Goth, a kilometer-and-a-half from the airport.

Cross-firing was still on in the area between the terrorists and the security troops that included troops of the Pakistan Army, the Pakistan Rangers and others.

Pakistan Army troops are in a state of high alert, and the troops have moved to the ASF Academy after fresh attack.

According to Jaag TV, the director general of the Pakistan Rangers is at the site of the attack to oversee the security operations.

All roads leading to Karachi Airport have been sealed, and heavy firing is still being heard from the area.

Karachi Police Chief Thebo said contact has been established with every officer.

Pakistan television reports are claiming that the attack has been repulsed, and that at least three of the terrorists have been killed.
