Flood situation improving in Odisha: Naveen Patnaik

Taking an aerial survey of flood affected areas in Odisha, Bharatiya Janata Dal Party chief Naveen Patnaik today said that although some areas have been affected badly, the situation is improving.

Floods triggered by heavy rain in the past week have hit nearly a million people in Odisha.

"Now the reservoir level is depleting very slowly and the level is now at 628 ft.7.6 lakh cusec flood water is entering the reservoir. 7.8 lakh cusec of flood water is being released through the 47 swish gate.By tomorrow the there is a possibility to close five gate depending upon the situation," said the chief engineer Biswajit Mohanty.

After taking an aerial survey of flood affected areas, BJP MP Jay Panda said, "Odisha disaster management committee and disaster rapid action force have already taken action. They have done a lot of work this time. The centre has sent some units of the rapid action force in Odisha."

"My job is to look after relief work done, so that the areas which are cut out don't face any problem, and alsoto see that wherever any special steps need to be taken should be done timely," he added.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured to provide all necessary help for relief and rehabilitation of the people living in the flood affected areas.

Eight teams of National Disaster Response Force have been dispatched for the rescue and relief operations in Odisha.
