Thaialand was placed under curfew overnight after the nation's army announced on Thursday that it had taken control and suspended the constitution following months of political turmoil.
Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha imposed the curfew along with a ban on political gatherings from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., reports the BBC.
According to BBC, key political figures, including the acting PM and ex-PM Yingluck Shinawatra, have been detained, and ordered to report to the military.
The army, which declared martial law on Tuesday, said it needed to restore order and enact political reforms.
It had intially started talks with several key figures, including opposition protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban and pro-government protest leader Jatuporn Prompan. But General Prayuth Chan-ocha later declared that a coup had taken place and that the army would now be in charge.
