Breaking its silence on the activities of the Islamic State (IS) inside Pakistan, the foreign office has reportedly admitted that the terror group posed a "serious threat" to the country.

While addressing the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee at Parliament House today, Foreign Secretary Azaz Ahmed Chaudhry acknowledged that the IS was a "real concern' but assured that all necessary steps would be taken by the government to counter the threat, reported the Dawn.

Chaudhry said that as per United Nations resolutions, Pakistan was firmly against extremist organisations like IS and was taking "all actions" to counter them.

He added that after the government launched Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan, some extremists tried to regroup on the IS platform but their efforts were foiled.
