Former President of Bangladesh, Hussain Mohammad Ershad, slammed former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's son and Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Tarique Rahman for using derogatory remarks against country's founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Ershad took a dig at the senior vice-chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Tarique while addressing a rally of his Jatiya Party on its 29th founding anniversary in Dhaka yesterday, saying he is introducing nasty politics in the country.
Tarique, on December 15 in London, had reportedly said Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a 'razakar' - a collaborator with Pakistan occupation army in 1971.
'Razakar' was the paramilitary force organised by the Pakistan Army in East Pakistan during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
Following Tarique's remark, thousands of protesters, mainly freedom fighters of liberation war took to the streets of Dhaka earlier on December 22, and shouted slogans 'down with Tarique Rahman' and 'we demand his arrest'. They also carried flags and banners as they marched.
A Dhaka court had also issued a warrant for the arrest of Tarique.
