Former England cricketing greats are not unanimous in axing of Kevin Pietersen, and want skipper Alastair Cook and former team director Andy Flower to shoulder some responsibility for the maverick batsman's departure.

The controversial batsman will not play for England again after the ECB called time on his international career. The cricket board did not explain why they were ending Pietersen's international career.

Former captain Alec Stewart said Pietersen was was quite outstanding, many people enjoyed watching him bat and now sadly it has all come to an end.

He told said of Pietersen on BBC Five Live that when England was winning there was no word about him, but as the team started losing everyone is pointing fingers at KP, which is unfair and unjust.

Former England legend Geoff Boycott want Cook and Flower to accept some responsibility for not managing Pietersen in right manner. "He was an individual ... I was one [as well.

Another former skipper Michael Vaughan believes England have, ultimately, been unable to man-manage their gifted "maverick batsman" effectively; while Nasser Hussain concludes the ECB has simply decided enough is enough, The Guardian reports.
