The first all-electric open wheel racing series, Formula E, would make its debut in America for the first time on Saturday in Miami, with the fifth race of the series' inaugural season.

Both Formula One and Formula E are run by the same governing body, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), but there are some key differences, with the biggest being in the cars. The cars in Formula E are completely battery powered and they emit a high-pitched whir instead of the roar typically heard in Formula One racing.

Moreover, there are also no pit stops during the Formula E race, as instead of running out of gas, the Formula E cars would run out of battery about halfway through the 39-lap event and before that happens the drivers must make it to the pit area where, instead of swapping batteries, they would hop into an entirely different car, The Verge reported.

10 teams would compete this weekend, each made up of two drivers.

The first four races took place in Beijing, Punta del Este, Uruguay, and Buenos Aires, the report added.
