Scientists have come up with the formula for a perfect Christmas dinner.

Psychologists Dr David Lewis and Dr Margaret Yufera-Leitch said careful measuring may be the difference between feeling stuffed or pleasantly satisfied due to the best combo of protein and amino acids, carbo-hydrates and vitamins that are commonly found in Christmas dinner ingredients, the Daily Star reported.

According to Sensory Specific Satiety, the ideal serving must have 150g of white roast turkey meat, 110g of chestnut stuffing and 100g of gravy.

The perfect festive plate, devised with Aldi, must have 155g of steamed sprouts, 170g of carrots and 150g of red cabbage.

It's also high in heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, thought to protect against heart disease, heart attacks and stroke, and safeguards against depression.

A 100g serving of roast turkey also has the recommended daily intake of the amino acid L-Tryptophan, credited with aiding sleep and lifting mood if eaten with carbohydrates, like potatoes.

After the main course Lewis and Yufera-Leitch suggest a 28g slice of Christmas pudding, a mince pie and a clementine should serve as dessert.
