At least four people were arrested in four different cases by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) 'A' batch officials for allegedly trying to smuggle gold.
As the passengers began to disembark from the aerobridge into the terminal building, the officials cordoned the area and commenced security checks.
All four accused were arrested on the eve of Independence Day.
A Kenyan lady passenger, Asha Abdi Ali Nur, was intercepted as soon as she arrived from Nairobi via Dubai by flight no. EK 508.
On being searched, gold jewellery weighing 610 grams with market value Rs. 14,16,041 were concealed in her upper innerwear and check-in baggage.
Another passenger, Vimal Rasik who had arrived from Dubai by Jet Airways Flight no. 9W 537 was arrested by officials. During the search, one crude gold chain and seven gold bracelets weighing 480 grams and with market value Rs. 12, 20,382, which were concealed by wearing it around his neck and the said bracelets was in his pockets.

The third passenger, Nayeem Abdul Razzak who arrived from Dubai by Spice Jet flight no. SG-14 was also apprehended. During probe and search; the officials recovered two crude gold chains 233 grams each with market value Rs. 12, 36,300. They were concealed in the right front pocket worn by him.
Finally the fourth passenger, Rafeek who was travelling from Jeddah by Jet Airways Flight no. 9W 0521 was also held by the officials. On being intercepted, the officials recovered gold wire which were coated with silver colour weighing 597 grams with value Rs. 15,83,844.
Rafeek cleverly concealed them below the running steel strips which were fixed with rivets as well as adhesive inside the side walls of the bag.
The gold was later seized and a case has been booked.
