Ousted AAP leader Yogendra Yadav on Thursday said that the ongoing friction between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung would hamper the valid demand of full statehood for Delhi and have a negative effect.

"Basically, the demand for full statehood for Delhi is a valid and correct demand. Like any other state government, the Delhi Government should be able to appoint officers of their liking. However, that is not what the current law permits. How to go from current situation to that ideal requires tact, it requires patience, it requires lot of wisdom," Yadav told ANI.

"That is not what we have seen in last one week and I fear that the immature manner in which this valid question has been raised could actually prove counter-productive. Instead of helping the cause of full statehood for Delhi, it can actually have a negative effect, it can actually harm the cause," he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had earlier urged President Pranab Mukherjee to intervene in the power tussle between Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over transfer and posting of bureaucrats.

A party delegation led by Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta met President Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan this afternoon and alleged that the tussle has created a constitutional crisis.

Gupta said governance has come to a standstill in the national capital as the Delhi Government is busy in power struggle ignoring peoples' problems.
