A local youth Muhammad Husain Ibn Khalo, who was working as pizza delivery boy, launched his own cable TV network 'Kargil Today' in 2011.
'Kargil Today' highlights cultural, religious and traditional aspects of Kargil, besides showing news and current affair programmes.
Today, Kargil today is considered as the voice of the people of Kargil district.
Khalo, who struggled a lot since childhood, did his schooling from a government school in Kargil.
"Since I opened this channel, a lot many changes have taken place in Kargil. Locals now speak on cable, which has given a lot of confidence," said Khalo.
"I wanted to do something new so that he cannot only serve the people of the district but also earn his livelihood," he added.
"We can say he is the pioneer of broadcast media in not only Kargil, but also in Ladakh. He took this initiative three to four years back. He took a brave step to run a cable channel, you need to have a lot of resources. Despite of many challenges, he has been successful to run and operate this channel," said Local Resident Murtaza Fazil.
