A leading futurist, Nell Watson, has warned that it is important to teach robots about human values now, so that they don't kill people because of compassion in future.
Watson said that teaching robots benevolence would not necessarily be enough as they might eliminate humanity for what it perceives to be its own good but teaching them human values would ensure that machines won't end up killing people out of kindness, Metro.co.uk reported.
Robots, like the super-advanced Asimo model, would be capable of making assumptions based on their surroundings.
The implications of this are that robots would drop "system two" thinking, intelligence based on rules, for human-like "system one" thinking, where they would make assumptions based on the world around them. However, this would allow robots to help domestically and even work in complex professions like stock broking and medicine.
