Scottish golfer Stephen Gallacher has said that being selected for the Ryder Cup has fulfilled his lifelong dream.
Gallacher was named as one of European captain Paul McGinley's wildcard picks for the competition at Gleneagles later this month. He finished just outside the automatic qualifying spots for the team.
Gallacher said that it has been a roller coaster to come so close, then to wait for captain McGinley phoning him, and added that it has fulfilled his lifelong dream, The BBC reported.
The Scot also revealed that when the call from McGinley came, he initially thought it was a family joke. He said that every phone-call got his attention, and thankfully he had his caller ID on.
He said that actually his daughter had been playing a game on his phone when it flashed up and she said 'there's McGinley dad' and he thought that she was winding him up. He added that they were out for a family dinner when McGinley phoned and said that he is in the team.
Gallacher said that he replied to McGinley saying that that is 'brilliant wee man'. He added that he has known McGinley all his days, they worked with Bob Torrance and just to hear him say that was fantastic.
Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter were McGinley's other two wildcard picks to complete the 12-man team that will take on the United States, the report added.
