Gandhi anniversary: Government releases Swachh Bharat commemorative stamps

Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Rural Development Ministeri Chaudhary Birender Singh today released commemorative postage stamps on the theme of Swachh Bharat to mark Mahatma Gandhi's martyrdom day.

Speaking on the occasion, Prasad said the NDA Government intends to make cleanliness a part of the nation's culture and pointed out that the design for the stamps were selected through a competition among children.

Naidu said if the practice of cleanliness catches with children, it would become a mass movement.

He hoped Swachhatha would become a Jan Andholan.

Chaudhary Birender Singh said the subject of cleanliness was very close to the heart of Gandhi and an apt tribute to him.

The Swachh Bharat Mission was launched by the Prime Minister on October 2, 2014 on Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.
