Mahatma Gandhi, who led a mass struggle against the British Empire in India, will soon be honoured by the British Parliament with a statue in Parliament Square in London.
According to The Guardian, the announcement was made by Britain's Finance Minister George Osborne at Gandhi Smriti, a memorial built for the 'Father of the Nation' at the site of his assassination.
The statue will be erected at the north-west end of the Palace of Westminister along side the statues of other important leaders like, Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela and Abraham Lincoln.
According to the report, the decision is a tribute to the mass leader who inspired the world to follow his principle of non-violence by leading a peaceful struggle against the British rule which ultimately saw the English colonialists leaving India.
Reportedly, sculptor Philip Jackson, who is known for creating the Queen Mother and Bomber Command statues, has been approached for the project which will be funded by charitable donations and sponsors.
