Slamming the Narendra Modi led Government at the Centre for fooling the people, Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Monday said that the common man is suffering while the government is taking pride in telling the nation that there is rise in the quarterly growth.
"This government is only fooling the people. The inflation rate is high, economy is stagnating. The common man is suffering, the middle class, businessmen is suffering and this government is taking pride to tell that there is rise in the quarterly growth," Alvi told ANI.
Taking on cut in petrol and diesel price by the government with effect from midnight of 31st August / 1st September, he said, "This is the first time that in the international market the rate of crude oil has gone below 40 dollar. Today in India the rate of petrol and diesel should not be more than Rs35 to 40. The government is fooling the people by reducing mere one or two rupees."
According to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates statement released by the government today, India's economic growth dipped to 7 percent in the three months through June from 7.5 percent in the previous quarter.
Also prices of diesel and petrol was slashed by Rs. 1.17 and Rs. 1.27 per litre respectively, effective from midnight of 31st August / 1st September.
