Emma Watson has called on men to help end gender inequality, saying that it's their issue too.

During her speech made in New York as part of her role as UN Women Goodwill ambassador, she said that she was appointed six months ago and the more she has spoken about feminism the more she has realized that fighting for women's rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating, the Independent reported.

The actress, who launched a new UN initiative called "HeForShe" aiming to enlist the support of as many men as possible to help achieve equality between the sexes, said that that one thing she knows for sure is that relating women's rights to this.

She said that for the record, feminism by definition is: 'The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes.

Watson stated that gender equality has not yet been reached in any country, and it never will be so long as "only half of it is invited or feel welcome to participate in the conversation", going onto to note prejudices that come with being a man.
