Soon, "Mx" may be added to the Oxford English Dictionary as gender-neutral honorific, alongside Mr, Mrs and Ms.

Oxford assistant editor Jonathan Dent said that it showed how the English language was adapting to the changing society and coming up with ways to suit people's need instead of dictating identity to them, the Washington Times reported.

As per the reports, Mx, which is pronounced 'mix,' had first appeared in the U.S. magazine Single Parent in 1977.

The title has been already been added and accepted by British government departments, and is used to in official forms and databases, Royal Mail and on driver's licenses.

In March, the official Swedish language dictionary had added the gender-neutral pronoun "hen" that is used for he and "hon" that is used for she.
