George Orwell's book '1984' which envisioned a world controlled by an omnipotent 'Big Brother' has become a bestseller on Amazon in a few days after the revelations about NSA surveillance programme.

According to New York Daily News, the 60th anniversary edition has generated high sales making it to Amazon's list of bestseller at no.68, after the surveillance reports emerged.

The recent revelations about US spying on its citizens' web activities and telephone conversations has brought the novel back to life and people are relating their privacy being infringed upon to that mentioned in the book written decades back.

The book was originally published by Orwell in 1949 and made into a film in 1984 portraying a totalitarian society where individuals are monitored through ubiquitous television screen and watched by a 'Big Brother'.

The 60th anniversary edition paperback is priced at 10.08 dollars, the report added.
