German Chancellor Angela Merkel is scheduled to visit India in October to discuss bilateral ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior ministers.

Chancellor Merkel's visit follows the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Germany later this month, where he will be inaugurating the Hannover Messe, which is considered as the world's largest business fair, in which India is the partner country.

India and Germany are also expected to discuss issues pertaining to vocational training, green energy, river cleaning, modernisation of infrastructure and 'Smart Cities'.

New Delhi and Berlin have a 'strategic partnership' since 2001, with several institutionalised arrangements to discuss bilateral and global issues of interest. Germany is India's largest trading partner in Europe and the second most important partner in terms of technological collaborations.
