A German court has ruled that a Muslim school girl should join mixed-sex swimming lessons in her school.

Her parents had insisted that their 13-year-old daughter not join swimming lessons at her school in Frankfurt.

Some Muslim parents said that such lessons run contrary to Islamic principles of modesty.

According to the BBC, the judge in the case said the girl could wear an all-over swimming garment to accommodate her beliefs.

Some Muslim girls already wear the garment to take part in the lessons.
