A new survey has revealed that international airlines lose close to 4.5 billion dollars when 1 in 100 people get their moniker wrong on ticket bookings while travelling.

The poll, conducted by a major European airline ticket website, also found that when two passengers have the same name, some airlines change one of the names so that both passengers can be accommodated, News.com.au reported.

While maiden names or shortened names are not usually accepted, long names also pose a problem, in which case the name is just shortened.

Typos are another common mistake.
