Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of imposing a ban on the Goa-based right-wing Hindu outfit Sanatan Sanstha.
Responding to queries from the media here about the demand made on Tuesday by ruling BJP MLA Vishnu Wagh that the state government must ban the Sanatan Sanstha, Parsekar said that merely because of an individual member's association with something, the government cannot jump to ban an institution.
"Let the Maharashtra Government take action in this regard, and then, we will take a call," said Parsekar.
Following arrest of Samir Gaekwad, a "Sadhak"(seeker) of the Sanatan Sanstha, in connection with the murder of veteran Communist leader Govind Pansare, the organisation is once again back in the spotlight.
Civil society groups and activists have been demanding that Sanatan Sanstha be banned.
Shubha Sawant,a spokesperson of the Sanatan Sanstha, said in Panaji, that the organisation has repeatedly rejected the charges that its members were involved in the attack on Pansare, even as a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is questioning Gaikwad and is on the lookout for another member Rudra Patil.
