Australian players like Shaun Marsh and Adam Voges can reportedly get themselves selected for the return Ashes series in Australia if they can produce a decent start to the summer in the domestic Sheffield Shield tournament
According to News.com.au, the same cannot be said for those cast aside for the fifth and final Test at The Oval like Usman Khawaja, Ed Cowan and Phillip Hughes, adding that they should not expect another Test any time soon.
The report further said that the fact that Australia chose bowling all-rounder James Faulkner ahead of the trio to fulfill the team's desperate need for runs has suggested that the selectors believe the left-handers are not part of the immediate future.
The report said that as veterans like Chris Rogers and Ryan Harris have proved to be 'Ashes finds' for Australia with their experience showing in their stellar performance fourth Test at Durham, the selectors may believe that senior players like Voges and Marsh can help bring the urn to Australia in the return series
The report further said that the younger players in the tour have not performed enough for which the Ashes remain in England.
