Google executive Dan Fredinburg was among those killed in an avalanche on Mount Everest that followed the catastrophic earthquake in Nepal yesterday.

Fredinburg served as Chief of Privacy for Google X, and headed up product management for the company's Privacy team. The news of his death was made public by his sister who said on Instagram that he died due to a "major head injury," reported Deadline.com.

Fredinburg was a frequent mountaineer who had survived an avalanche earlier in 2014. His Twitter bio described him as an "adventurer, inventor, and energetic engineer" and his Instagram profile said, "I want everyone to... have the heart of an adventurer."

He was hiking with British mountaineering outfit Jagged Globe. According to the company, all the other members in the team, including the Sherpa guides, were unharmed.

The quake that measured 7.8 on the Richter scale was the severest to hit the nation since 1930s, killing more than 1,080 people in the region, with effects felt in India, China Pakistan, and Tibet.
