Muslims in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, are celebrating the anticipated victory of BJP prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi in the 2014 general elections.

They distributed sweets and shouted BJP victory slogans.

The party is heading for a four nil sweep in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

"We are confident that the way in which people of the poll bound states have entrusted their support to the Bharatiya Janata Party, the party will also stand up to the expectations of the people. BJP will drive out the corrupt federal UPA government and respected Modi will become the Prime Minister in the 2014 Lok Sabha (lower house of parliament) elections,"said a BJP supporter, Iftiqaar Hussain.

The Muslims celebrating BJP's win and hoping for Modi to be the Prime Minister is in stark contrast to the general perception that Modi's alleged role in the 2002 Gujarat riots lost him his Muslim vote bank.

Human rights groups and political rivals have long alleged that Modi, a Hindu and a dominant force in BJP, allowed or even actively encouraged the 2002 attacks.

In Delhi, the one state which saw a three-way contest, the BJP's likely victory after 15 years of Congress rule was tempered by an unexpectedly strong showing by the new anti-corruption Aam Aadmi (Common Man) Party, which could deny it the majority required to rule.

BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh was the tightest race between BJP and Congress and the one possible bright spot for Congress, which had a slight lead in early counting.

The final results for the elections in Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are expected by early afternoon of Sunday.
