The Union Government on Wednesday approved the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission, worth Rs. 5,142 crores.
The mission is aimed at providing urban facilities in the rural areas.
"Three hundred rural clusters across the country will be developed by using the amount of Rs. 5,142 crores under this scheme," Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad told the media here.
"This is the continuation of the concept of Smart Cities, this is Smart villages concept," he added.
He further said that the government is taking efficient measures to tackle the drought-hit areas in the country.
