Following "credible information" that a group led by three people are involved in a conspiracy to identify, motivate, radicalise, recruit and train Indian citizens for planning and executing terrorist attacks in India and abroad, the Central Government on Friday handed over the case to National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation.
According to an NIA statement, "Credible information has been received that three people - Sheikh Azhar Al Islam Abdul Sattar Sheikh, Mohammed Farhan Mohammed Rafiq Shaikh and Adnan Hussain Mohammad Hussain - along with their unidentified accomplices are involved in a conspiracy to identify, motivate, radicalise, recruit and train Indian citizens located both in India and other countries for planning and executing terrorist attacks in India and in other friendly countries."
"The Central Government, having regard to the gravity of the offence, is of the opinion that the offence is a Schedule Offence under the National Investigation Agency Act 2008, and thus, should be investigated by the NIA," it states.
The NIA has registered a case under section 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967.
The case is under investigation, said NIA.
Meanwhile, three people deported from Abu Dhabi for suspected terror links after being summoned by the NIA for questioning.
However, the investigation agency said the decision regarding the arrest of the three suspects would only be taken after complete examination.
