Asserting that the Centre is committed to resolve the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) issue, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said that the government should be given some more time to solve the matter.
BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma termed the ongoing protests over the issue as 'emotional'.
"We pray for his [Col. (Retd.) Pushpender Singh] good health. The Bharatiya Janata Party and NDA Government is trying to solve the problem. It is not a political issue for us, it's a very emotional issue for us. Neither do we see nor do we do politics in it," said, Mr. Sharma .
"I think the government should be given some time to solve this issue because this is a 45 year-old problem. We want solution to this problem. We respect our former army personnel and they trust us," Mr. Sharma added.
An army veteran on a fast-unto-death over the OROP issue was yesterday rushed to hospital after his health deteriorated on the ninth day of the fast.
Col. (Retd.) Pushpender Singh was taken to the Army Research and Referral Hospital in south Delhi and was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after his medical report showed increased ketone levels.
