Congress Party leader Manish Tewari on Thursday said that it was extremely unfortunate that the government has done so little for the Indians trapped in Iraq, and added that they should act in a more responsible way.
"It is most unfortunate that government had done very little. They receive phone calls from Punjab almost everyday. They have not rescued anyone yet. The question is what is the government doing?" asked Tewari.
"It is the responsibility of the government. Ever since trans-national activity started, Indians have never been a part of it. It is very sad that the government has not done anything yet to bring those 40 people back. The government should bring them back the Indians who are trapped," he added.
Yesterday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that the 46 Indian nurses trapped in a building in Iraq's war-torn Tikrit town were safe and unharmed.
He also made it clear about India's stand on Iraq where it stood for its internal integrity and unity.
The government had on Tuesday said there was bombing and firing in the vicinity of the building which housed the 46 nurses and they had taken refuge in the basement.
