Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has told members of the Lok Sabha that the Centre has in principle given the go ahead for the establishment of a new National Security Guard (NSG) hub in Gujarat.
In a written reply to a question raised by BJP MP Ramsinh Rathwa in the Lok Sabha today, Rijiju said that on the suggestion of the Government of Gujarat, a team of NSG engineers had carried out a joint survey along with officials of Government of Gujarat on August 20 and 21 this year, and had submitted its recommendations with regard to the proposed hub to the union home ministry.
Based on the report, he said that the state government has been requested through a letter of September 25 to execute certain developmental works prior to handing over the land in question to the NSG for the construction of the hub.
As per the minister's reply, a piece of land measuring 41 acres has been identified Randesan Village in Gandhinagar District by a board of officers from the home ministry, CAPFs and NSG.
Currently, the NSG has four regional hubs namely in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai, which have been operationalised on June 30 and July 1, 2009 respectively, the minister revealed in his reply.
