Concerned over the rising cases of dengue in the national capital region, the president of the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Satish Upadhyay on Tuesday said that the Government of Delhi should be taking appropriate measures to get those affected by the vector-borne disease admitted to hospitals quickly.

"This government was sleeping and they were busy in the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections. And now, they are awake and saying that there is nothing to worry about. People are not being able to get admitted in the hospital. The government should worry about this and get the poor admitted. This situation is very terrifying," Upadhyay told ANI.

The Centre has asked the Delhi Government to increase the bed strength in hospitals and to initiate action against private hospital, which are over charging the patients.

The Delhi Government had issued notices to two private hospitals after the parents of a seven-year-old boy, who died of dengue on Tuesday, committed suicide as they failed to get him admitted to a hospital in time.

The Delhi Government on Monday also cancelled the leaves of all doctors and para-medical staff to counter the rising cases of dengue in the national capital.

Earlier, the government had launched helpline number 011-23307145 to assist the dengue patients here. The Central Government has also asked the Delhi Government to increase the bed strength in the hospitals and to initiate action against the private hospitals, which are over charging the patients.
