Govt. should look into the matter of women's safety, security

The vice president of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Kavita Srivastava on Saturday said that 50 per cent of India's population is unsafe and insecure , adding that the Government should look the matter of safety and security in Delhi.

"From one side we speak of progressing and developing India and on other hand a school girl cannot go to school freely. No Government is going to prosper if this issue is not looked up and taken seriously," Srivastava told ANI here.

She also said that Delhi Police introduce themselves as friend but their work does not seem so, and added, "Delhi police need to look at themselves properly."

Communist Party of India leader Brinda Karat on her part said that it is shocking that the Capital of this country is witnessing a growing crime against women and children, added that Police should be answerable to it.

Two minor girls, one aged two-and-a-half, and the other aged five, were gang-raped in separate incidents in Delhi.
