Launching a frontal attack on the NDA Government, the Congress Party on Sunday alleged that the Centre is trying its best to emasculate the judicial system of the nation and said the Supreme Court should pass orders to ensure judges are appointed.
"This government is trying its best to emasculate the justice system in this country. In my humble submission, the Supreme Court needs to act. It needs to read out the riot act to the government. It needs to pass judicial orders so that judges are appointed," Congress leader Manish Tewari told ANI.
Tewari stated that there is 50 percent vacancy level in the judiciary.
"In a country where you have a 1,092 hired judiciary judges only, you have 50 percent vacancy levels.that 500 judicial positions in the high court and supreme court are lying vacant. It just goes to show that this government has scant respect for either the justice system or the suffering which is inflicting on the people," he added.
Addressing an All-India Conference of the Central Administration Tribunal (CAT) yesterday, Chief Justice of India (CJI) T.S. Thakur said there are around 500 vacancies in high courts today with a large number of proposals are still pending, and hoped that the government attends to them.
"Infrastructure is a major concern for the tribunals, which are not adequately equipped and a situation has come today that no retired Supreme Court judge wants to head tribunals," Thakur said, adding that the tribunals are empty and there are no proper facilities.
