Noted political scientist and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Yogendra Yadav on Thursday said that there is no rule under the University Grants Commission (UGC) that one cannot be a member of a political party, and alleged that the Government was searching for a reason to sack him.
"There is no rule in the UGC that one cannot be a member of a party. Government said I am a member of a party and that this is causing some issues with the UGC for which I am being sacked. I told them there is no such rule. If they can prove that I broke any rules I am ready to resign myself. The government was searching for a reason to sack me. Now they found a chance," he said.
The Human Resource Development Ministry on Wednesday sacked him from membership of the UGC with immediate effect, stating that said his association with UGC might give a scope for "future politicization".
