Pakistani Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez has offered an apology to his team's fans following their defeat in the key World Twenty20 match against West Indies on Tuesday, which saw them out of the tournament.

It was the first time that Pakistan, finalists in the inaugural World T20 in 2007 and champions in 2009, failed to reach the knock-out rounds in the five editions of the tournament.

According to The Dawn, Hafeez apologised to the Pakistani fans for letting them and also thanked them for their support, although he added that they had the game in control at the start despite failing to maintain a good performance.

Hafeez admitted that the final four overs in the game cost them dearly and then they panicked at the start of their chase, following which it became very difficult for them to overthrow West Indies' target.

Hafeez further said that they aimed to get to at least 135-140 given their good start, self-belief, form, power and momentum, adding that there was chance for them to be positive and get to a score of 160.
