A new survey has revealed that half of the young women, aged 26-35, do not know how to label a vagina on a medical diagram, while 65 percent have a problem using the words vagina or vulva.

The research conducted by the Eve Appeal showed that one in five women aged 16-26 were unable to name a single correct symptom of any of the five gynecological cancers, while nearly 40 percent of them said that they used "lady parts" or "women's bits" for the term vagina, the Independent reported.

The study found that more than one in 10 women aged 16 to 35 were embarrassed to seek help from doctors regarding gynecological issues and nearly a third never visited a doctor due to embarrassment.

Helena Morrissey, chairman of the charity, said that it was important to promote straight talking about the signs and symptoms of gynecological cancers to women of all ages, and the survey had highlighted just how far they still had to go to make this happen.

Morrissey continued that those cancers had some of the worst outcomes for women, with a 40percent mortality rate and understanding the symptoms would save lives, thus, they were urging women this Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month to talk more openly about these life-saving issues.
