German teenager Alexander Zverev, who stunned world number three Roger Federer in the semis, will today face Florian Mayer in the finals of the Gerry Weber Open here.
The 19-year-old German yesterday defeated the 17-time grand slam champion 6-7, 7-5, 3-6 in the match that lasted for over two hours.
With the win, Zverev became the first teenager to beat Federer since the current world number three fell to Andy Murray at the Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati in 2006.
On the other hand, Florian Mayer easily edged past Dominic Thiem in the second semifinal played yesterday.
Another title clash with Thiem was foiled by Florian Mayer, who handed the Austrian a 6-3, 6-4 loss to set an all-German final.
