Marek Hamsik produced a stellar performance on Thursday night as he helped Napoli thrash their German counterparts Wolfsburg 4-1 in the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal tie at Volkswagen Arena.
Gonzalo Higuain put the Italian club ahead in the 15th minute before attacking midfielder Hamsik doubled the lead eight minutes later.
Subsequently, Hamsik's second strike and substitute Manolo Gabbiadini's goal propelled the Serie A club to hold an unassailable 4-0 lead in the 76th minute.
Wolfsburg, however, reduced the goal deficit as Nicklas Bendtner netted a consolation goal shortly before the end of the play, the BBC reported.
Both the sides will square off against each other in the second-leg of their Europa League quarterfinal tie on Thursday.
